0 3rd Dice : Dice Mice

3rd Dice looked better and younger wayy back in 1995 with Ajit, Ohgee & Aace played with JOSE. Yeah, that was the phase of teenage life when flying & jumping with guitars seemed owh so cool. Ajit wrote a few songs for JOSE but it didn't actually made the list; only a few was good enough for his older brother; Oneuno. JOSE was on and off a few years later, and Ajit took the chance of forming 3rd Dice with Ohgee & Aace. Based at TJStudio in Tuaran, they started to jamm and composed a few songs together (around 2003). Practice makes perfect they say; hahaha, to them; more practices makes you broke. One of their earliest attempt was a garage recording of New Hope and a few songs from JOSE. 3rd Dice started to capture everyone's attention when they dominated the TJStudio, and yes (you guessed it) ; they got broke, hahaha. They got extra fire power with Pye as an addition to 3rd Dice broke-n dynasty but still, the formula was not right somewhere. So they started recording their songs, released their first full demo entitled 'Gamblers' Series' and played many shows (around 2003 to end of 2004). After the release of their second full demo entitled 'Keep Yourself Together' in 2005, they forgot how broke they were because they were loving the fact that many have supported them in their music and at shows; the feeling beats a million dollars (at least they think so). The band started to evolved musically & technically; reaching new heights as plans to produce a self-recorded EP was well on the way. In early 2009, 3rd Dice released their first (hope not the last) EP entitled 'Why I Keep Writing'. The EP was a personal success for the band; it was a full independent release (written, recorded, produced, distributed) by the band. In the same year, they got Luther to replace Aace on drums which marks a shift in the 3rd Dice sound. So here is 3rd Dice facebook page. They're still here, still broke, still loving the feeling of appreciation. Please remind them anytime; How old is 3rd Dice now? They are beginning to lose count; over errr 5 years? Anyway, they would like to thank all friends and fans for the support through the years. Superb shoutouts to bands that they had the pleasure to play along side with. Enjoy the songs & lets get old together.

0 Late Sudirman Haji Arshad [1954 - 1992] Malaysian Fallen Star.

it's been 18 years

Sudirman was born on 25 May 1954 in Temerloh, Pahang as the youngest of seven children born to Hj Arshad Hassan and Ramlah Dahlan (the first stateswoman in Pahang during the 1950s). His passion for singing and entertaining started at a very young age, when his siblings and neighbors would happily let him entertain them.

After turning down a scholarship to further his studies in medicine, he studied law instead and received his degree from the University of Malaya. He was called to the bar and became a practising lawyer. He married Kamariah Jamaluddin in 1981, but divorced her three years later.

Sudirman won many local competitions from Bintang RTM Best Singer (1976) to Muzik-Muzik TV3 Best Performer and Berita Harian Popularity contest Most Popular Artist. He topped Malaysian, Brunei and Indonesia charts with songs such as "Merisik Khabar", "Milik Siapakah Gadis Ini" and "Salam Terakhir".[2] Songwriters who have supported him in the past include S. Atan, Manan Ngah, Michael Veerapan and Syed Harun. Even today, his songs are popularly played especially during National Day and Eid Fitr.

Sudirman was also the first Malaysian singer to perform at The Paddock at the Hilton of Kuala Lumpur in 1983[3] and was the singing ambassador for companies such as Proton, Malaysia Airlines, Honda Cup and honored pioneer card member with Hong Leong Bank. He was known for his versatility and sang Malay, Indian and Chinese songs with outstanding choreography. He was even known to have sketched the portrait of a fan while singing.

Local musicians who have played for him include Alex Boon, Jay Jay (singer guitarist), Hillary, Mac Chiew and Jenny Chin. Local women who have performed with him as his dancers (whom he refers to as "The Girls") include Joanne (Zainal Abidin's wife), supermodel Samantha Schubert and Linda Jasmine Hashim (now one of the leading dancing choreographer cum teacher in Malaysia's reality TV program show Akademi Fantasia).

Some Muslim fundamentalists and leftists detested his concert performances. Some even threatened and distributed warning pamphlets of "something would happen" during his Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Bangi concert to deter people from attending. The concert was postponed following protests from the UKM students union body, its academic staff association and the dean of the Islamic Studies faculty and six other student bodies. This incident was captured by Zainuddin Maidin (then journalist, now former Minister of Information) in his book "The Other Side of Mahathir". He narrated that the then-Prime Minister had called a few ministers to his residence to review the situation as the issue reflected Malaysia's position in terms of modernization. The meeting led to the conclusion that the show had to be allowed to go on. Sudirman's fans turned up in the concert hall. He went about pleasing the crowd, crooning his hits. One campus resident said, "At last something alive has come here." The negativity surrounding the UKM incident was not long-lasting. The irony of it is that, a couple of years after Sudirman's death in 1992, UKM held a Sudirman karaoke competition.

Sudirman produced an album for his favourite nephew, Razman Azrai, under Sudirman Productions. Also known as Atai, he had a couple of hit songs that topped the charts in 1985.

In April 1983, Sudirman sang a song for the late Puan Sri Saloma titled "Mama". When Sudirman approached her shortly before her death, Saloma didn't believe him that he wanted to make a song about her.

In 15 April 1986, Sudirman held an open air concert on Chow Kit Road, which was the first time ever that a street concert drew a 100,000-strong crowd on a Monday night. It jammed the stretch of Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Raja Muda to Jalan Raja Alang. Several fans fainted in the crowd, a few suffocated and were rushed to the hospital. A Malaysian English tabloid, The Star, wrote that "Kuala Lumpur came to a standstill and it had nothing to do with the recession, but with one man, Malaysia's top entertainer, an electrifying performance and most memorable night".[4]

Sudirman's songs topped the charts with every new album that he released. There was a time when his song "Merisik Khabar" climbed up to the #1 position for two months while his second song "Milik Siapa Gadis Ini" from the same album came in second and stayed at the top for a few weeks after "Merisik Khabar".

In 1989, Sudirman won the title "Best Performer" at the Asia Music Award 1989 contest at the Royal Albert Hall, London. There, Leslie Cheung (Hong Kong), Anita Sarawak (Singapore), Epo (Japan), Kuh Ledesma (Philippines) and many other singers represented their respective countries.[5]

As Sudirman was known by many as "Malaysia's No 1 Entertainer", he was chosen to perform for Malaysia's SEA Games closing ceremony in 1989 and many others such as the opening ceremony of Sepak Takraw competition, Merdeka, New Year and other national functions. In most cases, he would use his own money to ensure a successful concert.

Sudirman Arshad also had a strong fanbase in Singapore, as evidenced from a large turnout during his concert at the Kallang National Stadium in August 1987. People came from all classes, races and ages. Kelvin Tan Look Siew, Director of Singapore Armed Forces Music & Drama company, said, "We wanted to bring down a prominent artist from the region and Sudirman's name automatically cropped up."

EMI London took him on to work together with Stock, Aitken & Waterman (British producer trio who took on Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Rick Astley) for the world market with a song titled "Love will Find a Way". He was brought to The Beatles famous Abbey Road Studios and recorded the album, but died soon afterwards.

Sudirman Arshad wrote his autobiography Dari Dalam Sudir in addition to some cartoons and weekly columns for magazines and some local newspapers such as Karangkraf.

One of his books for children was recognized the best by Mobil-Mabopa, a Mobil Oil book writing competition.

Moreover, he was also a journalist writer and columnist, who wrote on various serious issues. One journalist puts it, "It was quite difficult for us to concentrate on our job. The person sitting across the table during the meeting is a celebrity!" Those he interviewed include Tun Ghaffar Baba.

Acting

Besides singing and writing, Sudirman also acted in a film called Kami[6], which was released in 1982. It was about two destitute orphans who find each other amidst the Kuala Lumpur street life. This film also spawned a track, "Pelangi Petang" (Malay meaning "Evening Rainbow"), which has been heralded as an iconic song by Malaysia's music industry.[6]

Television

Sudirman also successfully hosted Malaysia's TV gameshow "Keluarga Bahagia Singer". This program was sponsored by a home appliance company then called SINGER.

Charity work

Sudirman vwas also well known for his charity work with which he helped invite veteran artists in the slots of his singing shows aside from giving them generous donations. Money charity for mosques and people in need was something he would do willingly. During his life, he had also adopted and brought up an Indian boy from a poor family and he would actively seek charity work through the PAPITA (Malaysian Singer Association).

Business

Moreover, Sudirman Arshad also became Malaysia's first successful singer entrepreneur promoting Malaysia's most famous carbonated drink Sudi with business magazines and TV programs from Australia to Hong Kong featuring the drinks. Within six months, Sudi broke five per cent of the carbonated drink market. Later, Sudirman opened a franchise of Sudi Shoppe apparel and a Sudi restaurant.

He was Malaysia's first singer to be on the cover of Malaysian Business and Asian Business magazine. He had a business office atop the UBN Shangrila Tower and Sri Hartamas. He also served as Vice President of the Singers, Musicians and Composers Association of Malaysia (PAPITA).

While singing at Butterworth, Sudirman suffered a stroke and collapsed on stage. His sister and Mohd Radzi Sheikh Ahmad (then lawyer, later Minister of Home Affairs) announced that Sudirman's stroke was the result of a cerebrovascular disease. He died at 4 a.m. on 22 February 1992 at the age of 37 in his sister’s (Datin Radiah) house in Kuala Lumpur.[7]

Hundreds took part in his funeral procession. First, his remains were sent to his hometown in Temerloh, Pahang. Later, he was laid to rest at Chengal Muslim Cemetery, Temerloh, near the graves of his parents.

0 Effects of Music

The study of the effects of music on the mind and brain has been a subject of interest for many. The interconnection between music and the physical and mental health of human beings has been researched since long. The research has concluded that music does have positive effects on the mind and brain of human beings. Music has the power of healing certain ailments. Indian classical music has been found to have the strongest healing powers. Be it about fighting anxiety, be it about speeding the healing process, music is the answer to all the queries

When one feels depressed, soothing musical notes help the brain to alleviating the mental depression. While flat musical notes induce sleep and natural notes provide the mind with alertness.

Music is also found to affect the process of learning and thinking. If work is accompanied by quiet and soothing music, it helps the listener think, analyze and work faster in a more efficient manner. Music develops a positive attitude in the listeners and provides them with motivation. Surveys have shown that music brings about remarkable improvements in the academic skills of students, who are made to listen to certain kinds of music while studying or working in the lab. Listening to pleasant music, while doing a difficult task, can make it seem easier.

Some look at music as a hobby; for some music is their passion, while some pursue music as their career. Music has a direct influence on ones mood. Book stores, restaurants and shopping malls often keep some music playing in the background. The kind of music they choose to play depends on the kind of audiences they target. Music is found to enhance customer experience. Music being played in malls and restaurants peps up the mood of customers. People tend to spend more time in malls or hotels that play pleasant music. Music brightens up the atmosphere around you and is definite to cheer you up. Sad tunes often bring tears to the eyes. Cheerful songs brighten up your mood. Different types of tunes are seen to create different kinds of moods and arouse different kinds of emotions.

My opinion? From listening, playing and composing... Music is my life. How about you? *wink*

1 Stop Dating. I Refuse If She Date Me

It is being reported that Taylor Swift’s mother, Andrea, has advised Taylor to concentrate on her work rather than her love life.

Taylor’s mom is concerned that if Taylor concentrates too much on relationships it could negatively impact her image and her career.

An insider said: “Andrea, who has a firm grip on her daughter’s career and personal life, thinks Taylor has worked far too hard to let everything go to the wall for the sake of a boy. Taylor just wants someone to love; but she understands that her white-hot career is the most important thing right now.”

What do you think Taylor should do?

In a statement on TheKillersMusic.com, the Las Vegas band is refuting internet rumors that they are getting ready to split. Part of the statement reads, “They are all looking forward to some time off at the end of this tour as they have been on the road for a long time, but there are no plans for an indefinite hiatus.” In the same message, The Killers also announced they had to cancel their February 12th, 13th and 14th gigs in Sydney, because of the severity of the illness of a close family member of the band. The group does plan to play the other Australian dates they have committed to. Back on January 21st, The Killers cited the same reason for canceling their tour dates in Asia. 0 Great MV and Remake. Salute

On Friday night, "We Are the World: 25 for Haiti," the remake of the classic 1985 benefit song, premiered during the opening ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics. The song, proceeds from which will go towards disaster relief in Haiti, features an even larger cast of musicians than the star-studded original, with contemporary artists from Kanye West and Barbra Streisand to Pink and Lil Wayne joining in.

While there's certainly no criticizing the motivation for the remake, reaction to its musical quality has been mixed, with even Jay-Z calling the original version "untouchable" and saying he wished a new song had been written for the event instead: "It was a valiant effort, but for me, it's gonna be untouchable," he told MTV News on Saturday. Here's what some of our readers had to say:

"I thought the song was amazing and that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Everyone's dissecting the song for each little flaw and misstep. Look at it as a whole!" — peoplesrock78

"I have donated several times, but refuse to donate by purchasing a song that I think was awful. Good idea to remake the song, [but] it just sounded like a mishmash of bad singing. Do Haiti a favor and donate to the Red Cross, because they are the people who actually provide Haiti with help." — Cathy

"I would donate to Haiti, many times over before I bought this song. Horrible and terrible song, out of sync with the video and the producers made a point of not including anyone from the original. Why was Michael Jackson in the video? He is gone. You can stop adding him into everything." — peakway3

"All these negative comments. I feel like some people are missing the point. To me, this remake wasn't about trying to improve on the original version. It seemed to be more of a tribute to it. It was about these people, whether they could sing or not, contributing what they could. Singers sing, rappers rap, Wyclef did whatever it is he does. It's about very different people coming together and connecting through the majesty of song for a worthy cause, not winning a Grammy."

0 The Day I Born. Press Start

(b Bologna, 8 June 1671; d there, 9 Feb 1707). Italian composer. He studied with Perti and became principe of the Accademia Filarmonica, Bologna. From c1702 he was honorary maestro di cappella to the Duke of Mantua and later maestro of the Accademia del Santo Spirito, Ferrara. His habits may account for his lack of professional preferment; he drowned when drunk. Stylistically he belonged to the late 17th-century Bolognese school of vocal and instrumental composers. His operas were widely performed. Three of the first four are important in opera buffa history since they point to an independent regional development (the music is mostly lost); the libretto of the first, Gl′inganni amorosi scoperti in villa (1696), shows greater dramaturgical sophistication than its Neapolitan counterparts. Aldrovandini's serious operas were successful and, though not innovatory, include impressive music. He also composed oratorios, motets, cantatas, concertos and sonatas.
